Nintendo investors grumble of Nintendo's flagship game trends to release only for their own platforms for years. Mario and Zelda in General, spent their entire lives in a sort of Nintendo hardware, ban a few odd versions, released years ago. Why? Because Nintendo have long tried to control all of them part of the game developer, Ecosphere, from licensing the sale of equipment. Unfortunately dark investors don't see Nintendo method in madness, especially given the 3DS slow sales, as well as raising the Smartphone market and now asking giant move to Smartphones.
This is a terrible idea.
Bloomberg has a short piece on the disturbances and quoted one investor who says:
«Smartphones new battlefield for the gaming industry, "said Ohki, Manager of the Fund on the basis of a Tokyo investment management to statistics" Nintendo should try to buy their way in this platform or develop something completely new. "
To make clear Nintendo can allegedly "buy" their way into this market by releasing their own games for the smartphone platform. But why? Mario makes a lot of money in two ways-selling cheap equipment to the masses and by selling expensive software on the same mass. Mario Kart on the iPhone would be a hoot but Mario Kart Wii costs $ 30 and Mario Kart DS costs $ 18. The closest analogue of MK on the App Store is a copy of the $ 4.99 Sega all star Racing, good game of course but hardly caliber Nintendo release ... and the price.
There are two or three companies out there that can, for the most part, write their own ticket on the market of electronics. Sony used to be one of them, but with the slow seepage of the Playstation brand phones, it is clear that they're listening to their shareholders and not after their competence. Nintendo and Apple are the latest "walled garden"-type manufacturers in existence and it will be a long time before they contaminate their brand, deigning to postpone their flagship titles for smartphones.
Can they release a Smartphone? Of course they can, but why? 3DS has Wi-Fi, so they can explicitly add Skype chat or similar devices and their possible cellular radio for some. However, they do not chat company and their audience – children of school age, for the most part – probably cannot be chatting in school security and emerging issues related to the letting of children in the video are enormous. So play Smartphone is out.
So that shareholders really say? To use a sports analogy, they told Nintendo to trade their best player of the season down. Nintendo's real treasure does not per se even software or hardware. This goodwill, brand recognition and nostalgia associated with their best game. Nintendo console has more exclusives than any other manufacturer devices and they will keep it that way for as long as they can, investors (hopefully) be damned.
