Augmented reality provides a look at the joint Korea

Although the idea of a reunified Korea never dies, it is also one that seems pretty unlikely in the short term. And thanks to the work of the augmented reality artist Mark Skwarek tourists and citizens of South Korea provided a glimpse of what it was and ever can be.

Mark Layar-powered Korean unification project tries to heal the scars left by years of conflict on the Korean peninsula by removing the Korean demilitarized zone [DMZ] and return it to its natural state before Korea was divided into "Smartphone and tablet users can go to one of the two (currently) viewing locations and fire up the application for a look around. They will be seen in the image of the landscape that, thanks to its erasAR, erases signs of Division (think barriers, walls, weapons) between the two countries.

That it only works in several places on the border of North/South of regret, but it's really a new idea. I imagine (or at least hope) that it will get a lot of mileage out of an installed, not from any specific political currents, but since it illustrates a part of history, otherwise would not exist outside of textbooks. At least I hope that this inspires some intrepid youth write some decent alternative history fiction.
